Dan Leahy, co-founder and CEO of MakerSights, a retail technology company empowering consumer obsessed brands to deliver more products that people love while radically reducing waste, will join executives from Nordstrom, Kate Spade, Stitch Fix, and many more at this year’s ShopTalk to speak on emerging trends in the retail industry. During his panel session, Leahy will bring attention to the biggest roadblock retail brands face when it comes to achieving sustainability goals: overproduction.

The retail industry is one of the most wasteful on the planet. In the fashion industry alone, it is estimated that 40 percent of products fail to sell each season and are either incinerated or sent to landfills. This staggering volume of overproduction is both bad for the bottom line and the planet.

Supporting brands like New Balance, HOKA, Madewell, and Champion, MakerSights is the only collaborative assortment management workspace that embeds actionable consumer sentiment and demand data into product development, merchandising, and go-to-market processes. MakerSights helps brands leverage consumer obsession to power growth and sustainability through better, faster assortment decisions.

MakerSights recently raised $25M in Series B funding led by G2 Venture Partners. G2 has unrivaled expertise in supporting sustainable, commercially-minded transformations of traditional industries, like retail. The company also recently welcomed its first independent board member, Lisa Bougie. Bougie's career has spanned many industry-defining companies, including Gap, Patagonia, Nike, and Stitch Fix. Since leaving Stitch Fix in 2018, Lisa has been committed to only advising and investing in companies that support climate action, social equality, and wellness.
